Dog RunToward the end of 2009, planning began to build the Solterra Dog Run. Interested dog owners met, and the plan was presented to the community. After much discussion regarding location, design, and security, a site was chosen at the back of Solterra’s Common Garden, in and around the orchard, and consensus was reached.
A big fundraiser party was planned and held in March, 2010, netting enough money to purchase posts, fencing, a gate, and other needed equipment. Many Solterrans turned out to help dig post holes, pour concrete, and erect fencing, and the Solterra Dog Run was formally dedicated on May 7, 2010, with a big party on location. Today, Solterra’s Dog Run is a popular location among many of Solterra’s dogs. A rustic fence was built in hopes of keeping dogs out of the ‘pond’ that is present much of the year, and a pergola and picnic bench make it comfortable for Solterra’s people. The Dog Run is for the use of Solterrans and their guests only; a Solterra resident must accompany any dogs while they are playing in the Run. |
