Common House

(More information)
Solterra is nestled on the western edge of Durham, North Carolina (at Old Erwin and Randolph roads). The varied terrain of the twenty-acre site consists of open meadows, pines and hardwoods. The roads curve gently, and there are many colorful birds, lizards, deer and other native wildlife.

Footpaths connect all the houses and the common spaces through the meadows and woods. The common areas include play spaces, picnic tables, a tree house, swings, a newly completed Common House and a large organic garden we call the garden of eatin'. Last summer was the highly successful third year for our organic gardens.

We are situated at an equal distance from the downtown areas of both Durham and Chapel Hill, and a short distance from the state capital, Raleigh. Leading local colleges and universities and the cities themselves offer numerous cultural opportunities, theater, music, libraries and museums. Fine shopping and restaurants abound.
